Renesas announces massive restructuring steps

TOKYO, Japan - Renesas Electronics Corp. President Yasushi Akao announces a set of restructuring steps at a press conference in Tokyo on July 3, 2012. The struggling chipmaker announced plans to close or sell eight of its 18 domestic plants and eliminate more than 5,000 jobs, as part of a massive restructuring aimed at shifting towards overseas production and focusing on profitable microcontrollers.
