Amari to miss key TPP talks due to cancer treatment
TOKYO, Japan - Akira Amari, Japan's minister in charge of the Trans-Pacific Partnership free trade talks, announces at a press conference at the Cabinet Office in Tokyo on Dec. 5, 2013, that he will not be able to attend a TPP ministerial negotiating session starting Dec. 7 in Singapore, as he has been diagnosed with tongue cancer. Tokyo will send Amari's deputy, Yasutoshi Nishimura, senior vice minister of the Cabinet Office, instead to the four-day meeting.
