SENDAI, Japan - The Miyagi office of the Japan Coast Guard displays to the press the newly built patrol vessel "Matsushima" with enhanced disaster-response equipment at the Port of Sendai-Shiogama in Shiogama, Miyagi Prefecture, on Oct. 24, 2014.

                    New patrol boat to prevent illegal fishing by foreign vessels

                    A ceremony to mark delivery of a new patrol vessel to the Japan Coast Guard is held at a shipbuilding firm in Tokyo on Feb. 16, 2021. The 43-meter, 200-ton Mikazuki will be deployed in late March at a Coast Guard base in the Ogasawara Islands about 1,000 kilometers south of Tokyo with the aim of strengthening surveillance of illegal fishing operations by foreign vessels, especially Chinese ships hunting for red coral.
