Repaired hall of Shinto shrine shown to press

HASHIMOTO, Japan - The repaired main hall of the Niutsuhime Shinto shrine in Katsuragi, Wakayama Prefecture, western Japan, at the foot of Mt. Koya, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is shown to the press on Oct. 27, 2014, ahead of the transfer of its enshrined deity to the refurbished shrine in November, the first such ritual in 37 years.

                      Japanese hand-made paper shortlisted for UNESCO heritage status

                      MATSUE, Japan - Photo taken in Matsue, Shimane Prefecture, on Oct. 28, 2014, shows "Sekishubanshi," a type of traditional Japanese hand-made paper produced in the western Japanese prefecture. Traditional Japanese hand-made paper, including Sekishubanshi, has been shortlisted by a UNESCO preliminary review panel for inclusion on its Intangible Cultural Heritage list, the Japanese Cultural Affairs Agency said the same day.
