Cabinet approves contentious anti-conspiracy bill

TOKYO, Japan, March 21 Kyodo - Protesters stage a rally in front of the prime minister's office in Tokyo on March 21, 2017, when the Cabinet of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe approved a controversial bill that would punish people planning to carry out serious crimes, ostensibly in an effort to combat terrorism. Critics have warned that the legislation could lead to invasive state surveillance and arbitrary punishment of civic groups and labor unions.
