Record high temperature of 40.9 C marked in Saitama, Gifu

KUMAGAYA, Japan - Youngsters walk in a scorching sun in Kumagaya, Saitama Prefecture, where the temperature climbed to a record high of 40.9 C on Aug. 16, breaking the previous record of 40.8 C marked in Yamagata Prefecture in 1933.
