Technology can truly change people's lives for the better. In Malawi, an entrepreneur is making low-cost power banks using Chinese technology to avert impacts of power cuts.
Driven by persistent blackouts, Sam Smith Silumbu, in 2021 opened a workshop in one of the suburbs of Blantyre City, south Malawi.
Its core business is to manufacture mobile phone accessories including low-cost power banks.
The 30-year-old says he came across a lot of Chinese technologies when studying Civil Engineering as a self-sponsored student at Xinyu University in China's Jiangxi Province around 2017.
