Japan astronaut apologizes for data tampering

Japanese astronaut Satoshi Furukawa (L) bows in apology at a press conference in Tokyo on Jan. 12, 2023, for data tampering in a 2016-2017 experiment that simulated life on the International Space Station, which he supervised. Furukawa, 58, the third Japanese person to have completed a long-term mission in space, is slated for a second stint on the ISS later this year. "I sincerely apologize for undermining the trust of the people," Furukawa said during a press conference in Tokyo. On his planned second stint on the ISS, he said, "I would like to carry out my assigned duties faithfully."
