Egypt's Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Al-Sayed Al-Qaseer said on Monday that the country has achieved self-sufficiency for nine crops, including vegetables, fruits, and some other food plants, with a surplus for export.
He added that Egypt is close to achieving self-sufficiency in sugar. The country has also succeeded in narrowing the production gap for other crops such as wheat and corn.
Meanwhile, the minister confirmed that the state made proactive efforts to provide necessary strategic commodities for the manufacture of fodder, including expanding the implementation of contract farming, especially on corn and soybean crops.
The minister confirmed that the measures taken to achieve self-sufficiency included land reclamation and cultivation under a series of the country's development
