The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement that the growth was attributed to the retail trade sub-sector, which recorded an increase of 21.7 percent to 59.6 billion ringgit (13.3 billion U.S. dollars). Meanwhile, the sales of motor vehicles expanded 20.1 percent to 15.2 billion ringgit (3.39 billion U.S. dollars). Wholesale trade, on the other hand, went up 3.1 percent to 60.4 billion ringgit (13.49 billion U.S. dollars).
