The black stork, sometimes called the "panda of the birds," is under first-class state protection in China. SOUNDBITE (Chinese): LI WANZENG, Ranger "In the spring of 2018, the black stork couple chose to nest here. They hatched three baby birds in 2021, four in 2022, and five this year." This is the biggest family of black storks observed in Beijing in recent years. There are fewer than 1,000 remaining in East Asia. Xinhua News Agency correspondents reporting from Beijing. (XHTV)
