Rong Fengming, 63, is a local broom making handicraftsman living in Yushutai Town of Siping City in northeast China's Jilin. Till now, the making skills of traditional broom have been passed down in Rong's family for six generations. The broom handicrafts Rong has made range from over 4-meter-long large brooms to tiny brooms used as decorations. As a cleaning tool created by ancient Chinese with a long history, the broom has carried the meaning of cleaning the dust and ushering in the new as time passes. During the Dragon Boat Festival, broom handicrafts are usually hung outside the door, signifying the dust has been cleared away from the house. On the basis of inheriting the traditional making skills, Rong has designed different broom handicrafts with implied meaning of good fortune, which are favored by more and more people. (X
