Lavender Harvesting - Spain

Lavender Harvesting - Spain

A lavender field, June 30, 2023, in Brihuega, Guadalajara, Castilla La-Mancha (Spain). Brihuega, known as 'El Jardín de la Alcarria' (The Garden of the Alcarria), was the Spanish pioneer in lavender cultivation 30 years ago. The mowing and harvesting of the fields begins in summer when the flower has already taken on a grayish color. This work ends between the second or third week of August, thus bidding farewell to the flowering season. In these fields alone, harvesting reaches up to 2,500 kilos of essence per day. There are already more than 1,000 hectares of lavender in this municipality of Guadalajara and a treatment and perfume production plant has been established.
