Iranian Women Guerrilla - Iraq

Soraya Azizi is 53 years old. Her husband Hashem was a PDKI combat officer who arrived in Iraq in 1979 after a Kurdish rebellion in Iran was one of the largest nationwide uprisings in the country against the new state following the Iranian Revolution. He was killed in 2018 by an Iranian missile attack. The red cloth she lays on his grave is "the symbol of the blood of martyrs," she explains. Soraya and her daughter were present during the recent Iranian bombings a few weeks ago in the town of Koye (Koysinjaq), east of Erbil. Iraq, March 25, 2023.
