Manaus, 3rd Oct 2023 - Derli Leao and his mother live on a floating house, which is very common in the Amazon region. However, with the water level lower than ever, their home and the attached bar have been sitting on mud since early September. The lack of customers, who used to provide a gross income of $400 per day on weekends, has made it impossible for him to employ six people.     Community of Nossa Senhora de Fatima (Amazonas), 10th Oct 2023 - Half a dozen small communities have emerged along the lakes near the mouth of the Taruma-Mirim stream. With the stream now dried up, the population relies on makeshift wooden bridges and long walks to reach their homes. With the stream that once bathed the community now dried up, the connection to the outside world has shifted to a creek located an hour's walk away.                     Tefe (Amazonas), 6th Oct 2023 - Boiled Dolphins: Researchers and veterinarians are conducting a necropsy on a boto (freshwater dolphin) found dead in Lake Tefe, near the Amazon River, amidst the worst drought ever experienced in the Amazon. At least 150 animals - 10% of the region's population - were found dead and rescued by the Mamiraua Institute between late September and early October.
