STORYLINE:
A police officer was dead and another injured following a shooting at a rural property in South Australia (SA).
SA Police Commissioner Grant Stevens on Friday morning identified Brevet Sergeant Jason Doig, 53, as the officer who was killed in the line of duty on Thursday night.
Doig was responding to reports that a man had shot a dog at a property near Bordertown, 240 km southeast of Adelaide near SA's border with Victoria, with colleagues Michael Hutchinson and Rebekah Cass at 11:20 p.m. local time on Thursday when they were confronted by a 26-year-old armed man and Doig was shot.
Stevens said at a press conference that colleagues and paramedics tried to save Doig but he died at the scene. Hutchinson, 59
