US Capitol Tree Lighting Ceremony - Washington

The Capitol Tree stands tall against a frigid night sky on the West Lawn of the US Capitol in Washington, DC, USA, Tuesday, November 28, 2023. The US Capitol Christmas Tree is a 63-foot Norway spruce from the Greenbriar Ranger District in the Monongahela National Forest in West Virginia. The Monongahela National Forest was the first national forest to provide the People’s Tree on behalf of the Forest Service in 1970, and again in 1976. The tree was named “wa’feem’tekwi” by the Shawnee Tribe and means “Bright Star” in Shawnee. Photo by Rod Lamkey/CNP/ABACAPRESS.COM
