Opening Ceremony Of The River Tweed Salmon Fishing Season 2024

The River Tweed Commission is holding the opening ceremony of the River Tweed Salmon Fishing Season in Kelso, Scotland, on February 1, 2024. They are currently blessing the river as part of the festivities. The event began with a procession from Kelso Town Hall to the banks of the Tweed, with this year's special guest, the Duchess of Sutherland. The ceremony marks the 100th anniversary of the largest fish caught on the fly in Scotland, by a female angler, making it particularly fitting that a female angler is opening the Tweed this year. Her Grace the Duchess of Sutherland and Provost Mr. Gavin Horsburgh are inaugurating the 2024 Tweed Salmon Fishing season. The procession, which includes pipers and school children, started at 9:30 am from the River Tweed Salmon Fishing Museum and is culminating at the Cobby, Lower Floors. Ms. Mairi McAllan, the Cabinet Secretary for Net Zero and Just Transition, is also participating in the procession. (Photo by Rob Gray/NurPhoto)
