Senegal became an observer member of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) on Friday, joining the group of major gas producers at a ministerial meeting in Algiers, the Algerian energy ministry said.
The meeting was a prelude to the 7th GECF summit, scheduled for Saturday, in the Algerian capital, where heads of state and government, as well as other senior officials and experts, will discuss the role of natural gas in the global energy transition.
Algerian Energy and Mines Minister Mohamed Arkab, who chaired the meeting, stressed the importance of dialogue and cooperation among gas producers and consumers to highlight the benefits of natural gas as a clean, reliable, and affordable energy source, the ministry said in a statement.
