Jakarta Population Density Ahead Of The Relocation Of The National Capital To Kalimantan Province.

Traffic is heavy during the morning commute in Jakarta, Indonesia, on February 27, 2024. Jakarta has been the nation's capital since Indonesia gained its independence in 1945, growing from fewer than a million people to roughly 30 million. However, the capital has run out of space, and Indonesia is relocating its capital from Jakarta to Nusantara in East Kalimantan. This move is part of President Joko Widodo's plan to distribute economic activity throughout the country and to reduce the population and traffic congestion in the capital. President Joko Widodo has announced that the government will move in 2024, by which time the city center of Nusantara is expected to be completed. (Photo by Garry Lotulung/NurPhoto)
