Protests Continue At Columbia University Days After Arrests Of Pro-Palestine Students

Students and university community members are passing by identification checkpoints at a Columbia University campus gate in New York City, United States, on April 24, 2024, as the protest standoff continues both on and outside the campus. Campus security has been tight since the ''Gaza Solidarity Encampment'' protest standoff began a week ago. Tensions remain high days after Columbia University President Nemat ''Minouche'' Shafik called the NYPD onto the college campus on April 18, 2024, to arrest scores of pro-Palestine students who refused to dismantle protest encampments on the main campus quad. The standoff and arrests occurred after President Shafik had faced questions before Congress on campus antisemitism and enforcement of rules against protests. Demonstrators are demanding divestment from Israel in the wake of the ongoing Israel-Gaza War. (Photo by Melissa Bender/NurPhoto)
