Although entitled Japanese Singers, this staged scene actually shows torioi (bird chasing) strolling musicians. Originally part of celebratory ritual, torioi eventually turned into a custom called Kadozuke-gei. The torioi were strolling female musicians wearing distinctive amigasa hats and playing the shamisen. Yaomatsu-ro Restaurant seen from Makura Bridge at confluence of the Gennomori and Sumida rivers. The restaurant was opened in April 1870 as a branch of Yaomatsu located at Suijin-no-Mori. The naiden (inner sanctuary) of Chion-in Temple

The shumidan and zushi of the Miei-do Hall of Chion-in Temple are viewed from the southwest. The shumidan is done in Zen style, with gild and lacquer, and has a sculpture of a seated Honen (the founder). Miei-do is the main hall of the temple.
