TOKYO, Japan - KDDI Corp. unveiled a new cellular phone (in photo) at a press conference in Tokyo on Oct. 22. The company said that starting Nov. 28 it will offer a new service enabling users of its ''au'' mobile phone service to transmit and receive data at a speed equivalent to that provided by an asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) connection.

KDDI said that starting Nov. 28 it will offer a new service enabling users of its ''au'' mobile phone service to transmit and receive data at a speed equivalent to that provided by an asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) connection. KDDI said it will introduce a flat rate for packet transmission, giving users of the new service unlimited access to the Internet for a fee of 4,200 yen a month.

TOKYO, Japan - NTT-ME Corp., a Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp. arm, said June 28 it will offer a new type of Internet-based phone service for subscribers of the NTT group's asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) service without charging them for the length of phone calls, starting in September. Those ADSL subscribers will be asked to pay only a monthly basic fee of some 1,100 yen if the subscribers talk to each other through compact phone handsets connected to personal computers.
