Vietnam to issue new bank note

HANOI, Vietnam - This new 100,000 dong (about 7 U.S. dollars) bank note, the highest face value ever, is to be issued by the State Bank of Vietnam on Sept. 1. It carries a portrait of the late President Ho Chi Minh and has eight exclusive traits designed to distinguish it from counterfeits.

Japan to issue reminted 500 yen coin

TOKYO, Japan - Senior State Finance Secretary Yoshinori Ono holds a graphic panel at a news conference Dec. 3, displaying the image of a new 500 yen coin (L) which the Finance Ministry plans to issue around next August to stem the widespread use of counterfeits.

Device to detect fake dollar bills

The photo shows a device to detect fake dollar bills unveiled Tuesday July 14 by Japan's Omron Corp. The company says the new product has a 99.8% accuracy rate in detecting ''Super K'' and other high-quality counterfeits of U.S. 100 dollar bills. It plans to begin exporting automatic teller machines (ATMs) incorporating the system later this year.
