Chiba governor scraps tideland reclamation plan

CHIBA, Japan - Chiba Gov. Akiko Domoto announces the cancellation of a project to reclaim the 101-hectare Sambanze tideland in Tokyo Bay, at a press conference at the Chiba prefectural government office on Sept. 26. The Sambanze tideland, which becomes a beach at low tide, is home to more than 600 species of flora and fauna, including 170 types of migratory waterfowl and 100 types of fish.
