Owakudani is the crater formed by the erruption of Mt. Hakone. Until the beginning of Meiji, it was called Ohjigoku (Big Hell) and was believed to a place where spirits dwell. Before the great fire of 1892, it was a famous spa with many hotels. The Kiga Spa from the panorama tea house (presently, around Seijakuen). The road (presently National Route 138) connecting Miyanoshita and Miyagino, and the bridge over Suzawa River can be seen clearly.
