Japanese developer devises OS for nonstandard characters

TOKYO, Japan - Displayed on a computer screen is a list of Nonstandard kanji characters are often found in names of people and places as well as literary works. University of Tokyo Professor Ken Sakamura, the developer of the Tron computer operating system, said March 10 he has developed a technology to show nonstandard Japanese kanji characters even on Western operating systems such as Windows and Macintosh. Clarion to launch PC for car Dec. 1

TOKYO, Japan - Clarion Co. said Nov. 25 it will launch a car-mounted personal computer (PC) system, CADIAS, on the domestic market Dec. 1. The product is based on Windows CE for Automotives and incorporates a car navigation system, car stereo and DVD player. The PC can be connected to the Internet via mobile phones or personal handy phone systems, enabling a driver to download maps and traffic information while operating the car, the company said.
