LONDON, Britain - A child puts a letter in a gold postbox in London on Aug. 8, 2012. Royal Mail Group Ltd. has been repainting the postboxes from red to gold in the hometowns of or places associated with British athletes who won gold medals at the London 2012 Olympics.

HIROSHIMA, Japan - Repainting work at Itsukushima Shrine's huge Torii gate in Miyajima, Hiroshima Prefecture, begins March 31. The 16-meter-high gateway of the shrine, designated as a World Heritage site, will be completed in a month.

Atomic museum in Nagasaki repaints bomb model

The Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum in the southwestern Japanese city unveils July 28, 2015 a life-size model of the atomic bomb "Fat man," dropped on the city of Nagasaki on Aug. 9, 1945, after repainting it yellow to closely resemble the original. The model was painted dark green when it was introduced at the museum in 1996, as the color of the original bomb was not known at the time. The repainting is part of the museum's efforts to update its exhibits and provide the visitors with a better understanding of the nuclear weapon on the 70th anniversary of the atomic bombing. Gongen Shrine,Hakone

This is the main hall of Hakone Shrine. Timbering is surruounding the shrine. Since there is no record of restoration during the Meiji Period, repainting was being done at this time. In 1884, the Department of Internal Affairs had given 300 yen for the purpose of preserving the old temples and shrines and the timing could be the same.
