Korean A-bomb survivor wins law suit

              NAGASAKI, Japan - Family members of Choi Gye Chol, a South Korean atomic-bomb survivor who died at age 78 in a hospital in Busan, South Korea, last July 25, stand in front of the Nagasaki District Court on March 8 before entering the court to hear a ruling on their claim that the Nagasaki city government should pay Choi's funeral expenses.                 OKINAWA, Japan - Residents near the U.S. Kadena Air Base in Okinawa Prefecture and their supporters protest a ruling on their noise pollution suit by the Okinawa branch of the Naha District Court in front of the branch building on Feb. 17. The court ordered the state to pay 1.2 million yen in damages to each of the 40 plaintiffs, who were affected by the 1945 atomic bombing of Hiroshima while forced to work at Mitsubishi's factory in Hiroshima as conscript laborers during World War II.                       NIIGATA, Japan - Plaintiff Wang Chengwei (L) informs other plaintiffs and supporters of victory March 26 in a lawsuit at the Niigata District Court over wartime forced labor. The court ordered the state and a Japanese company to pay 88 million yen in compensation to Chinese who were forced to work in Japan during World War II. It is the first time for a Japanese court to order both the state and the company concerned to pay compensation for wartime forced labor. (Kyodo)
