WWII Japanese soldier's family reads picture journal
In April 2015, Hisae Yasugi and her husband in Matsue, Shimane Prefecture, western Japan, read a picture journal written and drawn by Hisae's late father and former Japanese soldier Toshio Yasugi, depicting life on Chichijima, the biggest island of the Ogasawara chain in the Pacific Ocean. Toshio was stationed on the island as a member of the Japanese infantry during and shortly after World War II. The journal has been kept at Hisae's home in the western Japanese city. (Kyodo)
