Kinki Univ. researchers breed catfish tasting like eels when grilled
Bowls of rice topped with broiled catfish, served in the same fashion as Japanese "unagi" eels grilled in sweet soy sauce, are presented to the media during a tasting event in Osaka, western Japan, on July 13, 2015. Researchers at Kinki University in neighboring Higashiosaka have succeeded in breeding catfish that taste like scarce unagi when grilled and plan to produce about 100,000 catfish in about a year's time amid concerns over the dwindling population of freshwater eels.
