Compensation issue for leprosy patients' kin
Mitsuhide Yahiro, who jointly represents a group of family members of former leprosy patients who filed a lawsuit to seek compensation from the state for their suffering under the government's now defunct segregation policy, speaks at a press conference in Tokyo on July 12, 2019, after Prime Minister Shinzo Abe offered an apology to them. Abe said earlier in the week the government will not appeal a recent court ruling in Kumamoto awarding damages to former leprosy patients' kin. (Kyodo)
