Emperor, turning 72, voices favorable view of female roles
TOKYO, Japan - Emperor Akihito, on the occasion of his 72nd birthday, gives a press conferences at the Imperial Palace on Dec. 19. He showed a favorable view of the roles played by female members of the imperial family, though declining to comment on a government panel report which proposed allowing females to ascend the Japanese throne.
