Nagasaki court recognizes 20 as A-bomb illness sufferers
NAGASAKI, Japan - Plaintiffs in an A-bomb illness recognition case and their supporters raise their fists in the air at Nagasaki Peace Park on June 23 after the Nagasaki District Court recognized 20 of the 27 plaintiffs as suffering from illnesses caused by radiation from the 1945 U.S. atomic bombing of Nagasaki, declaring illegal the government's refusal to grant them certification. The group demanded that all of the plaintiffs be recognized as A-bomb illness sufferers. The framed pictures are those of plaintiffs who died during the case. (Kyodo)
