Court says Koizumi's shrine visit official but rejects damages

CHIBA, Japan - Akira Kobayashi (R), one of 63 plaintiffs, speaks to reporters at the Chiba prefectural government office in Chiba on Nov. 25 after the Chiba District Court rejected their demand that the state and Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi pay 6.3 million yen, or 100,000 yen to each plaintiff, arguing that Koizumi's visit to Yasukuni Shrine violated their constitutional right to freedom of religion, thought and conscience.
