Egypt has released millions of tons of fodders stranded at the country's ports over the past few months, which is expected to help reduce the price pressure on poultry and eggs, the Egyptian Agricultural Ministry said on Tuesday.
The ministry said the most populous Arab country released 2.1 million tons of fodders between Oct. 16, 2022 and Jan. 19, 2023, which are worth more than 1 billion U.S. dollars.
In recent months, the prices of eggs and poultry, which many low-income Egyptians rely on as a source of protein instead of costly red meat, have soared in local markets amid an increase in fodder prices and other production costs.
