Dutch Colonial Artifacts Return To Colombo, Sri Lanka

School children are visiting and looking at ''Maha Thuwakkuwa,'' two firearms, during a public exhibition at the National Museum in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on December 6, 2023. The firearms were among the six cultural artifacts returned by the Netherlands to Sri Lanka. These artifacts, which include Lewke's cannon, two gold kastanes (ceremonial swords), a silver kastane, a Sinhalese dagger, and two firearms, were originally plundered from the ancient Kandyan kingdom in 1765 by Dutch colonialists and belonged to the Kandy royal family.
