Microsoft to sell new video game console next fall

TOKYO, March 10 Kyodo - Rick Thompson, vice president in charge of hardware at Microsoft Corp., speaking in a press conference at a Tokyo hotel on March 10, announces the U.S. software giant's plan to enter the lucrative home video game market in the fall of next year by launching its own game console tentatively called the ''X-Box.'' The console, which will feature a DVD drive and allow Internet access, will compete directly with Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.'s PlayStation 2 -- the game platform recently launched in Japan.
