JR West has 46 cases of ATS activation due to driving error

TOKYO, Japan - Transport minister Kazuo Kitagawa (R) receives an interim report on the April 25 fatal derailment on JR West's Fukuchiyama Line from Aircraft and Railway Accidents Investigation Commission Chairman Junzo Sato on Sept. 6. The reports said that West Japan Railway Co. trains experienced 46 incidents of an advanced automatic train stop system being activated due to driving errors or other reasons in fiscal 2004. (Kyodo)

AMAGASAKI, Japan - A woman passenger on a West Japan Railway Co. train prays for the victims of the April 25 fatal derailment accident when the train passed the accident site between Amagasaki and Takarazuka stations on the Fukuchiyama Line in Hyogo Prefecture on June 19. Sanyo Shinkansen tunnels declared safe

TOKYO Japan - Transport Minister Toshihiro Nikai on Dec. 16 in effect declares the tunnels on the Sanyo Shinkansen Line safe, on the basis of a report submitted earlier in the day by West Japan Railway Co. (JR West). The government ''has endorsed JR West's judgment on safety'' of the tunnels, he told a news conference.
