Fragments fall off from Air India plane's engine

Memorial service held for 107 train derailment victims

AMAGASAKI, Japan - A memorial service was held on Sept. 25 for the 107 victims of a fatal derailment on West Japan Railway Co.'s Fukuchiyama Line in Amagasaki, Hyogo Prefecture, with the bereaved families and JR West executives praying for the dead together for the first time since the accident occurred on April 25.

The reports said that West Japan Railway Co. trains experienced 46 incidents of an advanced automatic train stop system being activated due to driving errors or other reasons in fiscal 2004. (Kyodo)

Sanyo Shinkansen tunnels declared safe

TOKYO Japan - Transport Minister Toshihiro Nikai on Dec. 16 in effect declares the tunnels on the Sanyo Shinkansen Line safe, on the basis of a report submitted earlier in the day by West Japan Railway Co. (JR West). The government ''has endorsed JR West's judgment on safety'' of the tunnels, he told a news conference.
