M5.6 quake hits north of Tokyo
TOKYO, Japan - Yohei Hasegawa, director of the Earthquake and Tsunami Observation Division of the Japan Meteorological Agency, holds a press conference on Sept. 16, 2014, at the agency in Tokyo, on a magnitude 5.6 quake that hit parts of the Kanto region north of Tokyo earlier in the day. The 12:28 p.m. quake registered lower 5 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7 in parts of Tochigi, Gunma and Saitama prefectures, and 4 in Tokyo. There was no tsunami alert following the quake.
